Is This Goodbye? No Way!

Today did not start out well...at all. I was awakened quite early by an inconsiderate phone call. Then, I received some feedback from one of my peers that made me cry. Can I please go back to bed and start the day over?

Craftster.org used to be my go-to place to share my creations and receive constructive feedback. But, in the last year, I have noticed more and more negativity. It's just crappy little comments and backhanded compliments, but it hurts. I feel unwelcome. I mean, why, if you don't have something nice to say, can you not just zip your lips? Why do you feel the need to tell me that you would never have dressed my doll in the clothes I dressed her in? Why do you feel the need to tell me that you didn't like the yarn I spun, but that you suppose the finished item is alright? What is wrong with you?!? Who took a dump in your cornflakes this morning?!?

So...
I'm going to be keeping my distance. I can't handle all of the negative people. It feels like high school all over again. This just sucks...I used to love Craftster.

Edited to add:
Screw it. I'm not staying away from a community that I love just because a couple individuals choose to be a bit sour. My desire to leave positive feedback for my fellow Craftster-members has been renewed. Boosting the egos of other artists and encouraging them to do what they love is just me being the change I want to see in the world.

  1. Oh, I finished a few more things from my list of 50 projects in 2011...
#34 18th century inspired embroidery designs
    #37 crocheted baktus
    #40 olive green leather journal
    #41 olive green leather/silver journal

10 down, 40 to go. I think I'll be doing a lot more than 50 projects this year. =)

  2. WHAT?!? Are people crazy? Your dolls are friggin gorgeous and you shouldn't let boogerish people get you down! I hope that you will post all of your crafty goodness on here so that I can oogle it still! And I have to somewhat agree... I usesd to be so obsessed with Craftster but now I rarely go on it, I think it has lost some of its appeal.

  3. Thanks Avery. You're so sweet! I'm just sad, but I'll get over it. I still check out *everything* that is posted on Craftster...I love giving people positive and helpful feedback (when I have something to contribute). Those good vibes help people become better, more confident artists and I want to pass the love on. =) Can't let the mean girls take over, right? I know that I never would have had the confidence to pursue my art if it hadn't been for all of the support that I originally found on Craftster...but, I might have given it all up if my initial reception had been anything like some of the recent comments. They probably don't even realize how hurtful their comments can be. I know that it's just a few sour apples, though, and most of our peers are truly compassionate and sensitive artists.

  4. I'm sorry you're having such a crappy morning. :( I just wanted to let you know that I found your blog through Craftster when you posted your beautiful peacock elf poppet. I hope you continue to blog about your lovelies. Everything you make is so inspiring!

  5. Thanks Selena. It's getting better. I hauled out my sewing machine to work on something I've wanted to make for a while. I will definitely keep sharing my creations via my blog, and occasionally even on Craftster. It was just one of those days when every little thing spells disaster. =P
